Brent Visits Chgo

by

Jonathan Brent

Board members & special guests proudly welcomed Jonathan Brent (YIVO’s new executive director and CEO) at an exclusive reception last night at the Hilton Garden Inn in Evanston.

Brent’s appointment became effective July 1, when he succeeded Carl J. Rheins (who had resigned for health reasons).

Brent comes to YIVO from Yale University Press in New Haven, CT, where he served as editorial director and associate director. During his 18-year tenure at Yale, he published leading educational, academic, and trade books, including several publications sponsored by YIVO, such as The History of the Yiddish Language; The Last Days of the Jerusalem of Lithuania, by Herman Kruk; and The YIVO Encyclopedia of Jews in Eastern Europe.

Metro Chicago khaverim also know Jonathan as the son of Stuart Brent, longtime owner of Stuart Brent Books (a famous Chicago shop frequented by the likes of Saul Bellow and Allan Bloom in its heyday).

Jonathan has terrific plans for YIVO.  Stay tuned!
